I have talked to a few people who run them and LOVE them. I was curious if there is any long term things to look out for when using one of these full time lockers? Have any of you who have been driving these things for more than 50k miles have any sort of issues be it minor or major?

I was reading another thread, for an automatic, his carrier (or carrier bearing) was getting chewed up and destroyed from have the driveshaft having movement when it would engage and dis-engage. I am wondering for those of you who have a manual, are you experiencing a similar issue?

I am looking more for gears getting battered, lots of metal pieces when you change your diff oil, driveshaft issues (like the carrier getting eaten alive). I am not looking for well your wheel wear will be different or things of that nature.

Is there anywhere to possible read a long term usage review?

an 09+ trd sport and OR have the exact same autoLSD as you have now. only difference is the OR has the added e-locker.

I think I have about 2k miles on it now. When I first put it in, the locker was tight and adjusting itself. It would "click, click, click".
I took it right out and put 100 miles on it.(recomended break in ) Havn't heard a thing out of it since.
There seems to be a little more play in the rear end than usual. Like when you park and get out it wants to roll forward about another inch. The local 4x4 shop said that is usual as you dont have to set the backlash in these.

I have been off road on several fire trails, power lines, creeks, hills, mud, dirt and generally places that I would have NEVER went when it was open diff.
You just have to relearn what your vehicles limitations are because it's an entirely new ballgame with a locker.

Depends on your driving style I suppose.
The difference between the 2 is that LSD switches power from the wheel that slips, to the wheel that grips.
A locker is balls up both rear tires have traction 100%.

And of course the lame open diff is what most vehicles have in them whereas the wheel that is getting the least friction is the wheel that spins.

An LSD with an option to/or have a selectable locker would be the ideal way to go.

the discussion wasnt about fitment of anything in the rear diff. the guy i quoted said he wished he had gotten a sport or OR. i told him the differences/likenesses compared to the auto LSD he already has.

A buddy of mine has about 65k miles on his, with no issues. The only thing is, every once in a while, it will make a bang sound, or clunk. Sounds like the diff blew up, but its fine. Happens not often.

I hear nothing but an audible click every now and then. Lunchbox style lockers have come along way.

    Oh Yeah!!!

But unfortunately Im not drunk enough and Im lost on how this axel will provide an AWD capability.

Im looking more for some type of Locker, front and rear.

This is a future project of course...

Sorry to the OP, thought the question would spring up more suggestions and feed back. My bad.

RCV cv axles are beefed up. that's it. they wouldnt provide the AWD you are talking about. they would however be a good thing to invest in if you lock the front diff, etc. that would put more stress on the stock cv's than they can handle

This was really one of the things I wanted to talk with you this afternoon about but the conversation went another direction lol

I really am thinking of selling the ARB and compressor and getting a powertrax no slip because I am leaning away from crawling style wheeling more towards desert style prerunning. So do you think the powertrax will be a good choice for that of driving?
