I'm wondering, if I were to wash my engine - do I need to cover the alternator or any other vital engine parts before I spray water in there? On my other vehicles I always have but the alternator on my Tacoma is hard to reach and cover up. Any suggestions.

i keep the engine running and i cover my air box and just hose it down

A clean engine is a happy engine. Mine's due for a wash down as well.

you leave the engine running incase you do get water some where its not suppose to be you can tell by the noise change in the engine
