The FRONT DIFF. (on a 4WD Tacoma) has the remote breather up high, the same one we put on the back with this mod.

I am saying it was an error for Toyota to not do the same remote breather for the rear diff... and I said specially for OFF ROAD TRDS... because they are made for "Off Road', ie. possible deep water crossings.

I wasn't saying a thing about SPORTs, but all 4WD Tacos should have the rear diff. with the remote breather, unless it is just for 'Sport' use and no off roading... why risk contamination?

The axle seals would probably need to be completely submerged for the risk of contamination... but why risk it? This mod is cheaper than having the fluid changed or any gear damage!

How tight should i tighten the union to the axle? I have it snug but it can still turn more, I just don't want to risk stripping the threads in the axle.

i agree. on the 4wd thing. if it’s 4wd the front diff already has it done but why did toyota not do the back? oh well not that hard to do. and it’s pretty cheap.. i need to do mine i got the stuff last summer but lost the 2 end pieces in my tool box before i had time. lol. found them a few weeks ago.

If you wrapped the threads with some teflon tape, 'snug' should be fine.

I used 3/8" fuel line, and routed it out into gas tank plug compartment through a hole as big as the OD of the hose. Hope I didn't screw up the plastic wall.

Does the TYPE of hose really matter? Can it be any old flexible 3/8" hose? Does it have to be high pressure or fuel line? Reason I'm asking is home Depot and Orchard don't seem to have what I'm looking for.

EDIT: Finally found fuel line at Pep Boys.

Probably not, but why not use the better hose, if you have a choice... You know do it once instead of over!

Yeah, ended up finding some black fuel line. Hopefully I'll install it in the next two days. Thanks for the write-up!

You are welcome... You will feel good about your Tacoma once that is done... (and it should have been done at the factory!)

Pull up and out. Not hard at all. It's easy either way you go but gas can looks cleaner and is better concealed IMO.

The side compartment in the bed worked great for me (see photos on first page).

Just have extra slack in the tube run... Use 7 ft. piece instead of 6 ft. maybe.

Did this today, even easier than it looks. Definitely recommend dropping the spare tire.

I also removed the bed cubby/box which made it easier.

Thanks for the write up David K.
