I went out and checked my 2009 Taco and there is a rubber plug that slides down off the filter drain plug.

I am not that sharp of a mechanic but want to change my own oil. Does that rubber plug slide off and then hook up the 5/16 hose on the filter drain plug.
    :)
    Thanks

Anyone know what the recommended torque is for the drain plug?

I have a 2009 4WD AT with 30K, bought it with 15K and just did my first oil change and I want to thank everyone for there help. :):):)

It went smooth after I found my old filter wrench, the one you can use a socket with.

I used a syn blend and I hope that's alright, the stealership also used a syn blend, at least that's what they said.

Can I go to a full synthetic with 35K miles on the next oil change?

You can do that. You could change back and forth all you want. You could run synthetic in even years and regular oil in odd years. Regular oil in months that end in "y". You could make a new rule that you can only wear white pants and run regular oil before labor day, gray pants and synthetic oil from then until memorial day. [IMG]

Remenber, 'vetts come with full synth from the factory.
One can swith back in forth , but why would one want to ? I run full syn in all of my machines. Hell, I even run it in my lawn mower.

After reading the original post and noticing a step was missing I.e. add oil to filter before installing. I then read the first 100 posts and last 10 and nobody made mention of it. Not a step I ever miss.

Dont really need to. Plus, the filter goes on with the open end down, so it would pour out anyway when you put it on.

Not saying to fill it with oil, just put some in and roll it around so it is not dry, which is fairly standard in the industry.

I dont see the need, as fresh oil hits it in a couple seconds, or less when you start it.

i changed my oil today. was at my house up at school so i don't have all my tools up here yet :( borrowed a ratchet from the neighbor and drained the oil into empty coffee cans. before i put the new filter in i just dipped the bottom of it in the old oil and screwed her in there.

what's it really hurting? i asked myself. i was a clean coffee can, just enough to get the seal wet, i thought it was a good idea. . . and i had already put the other jug of new oil in the barn.
