Mine's 16 quarts. It's usually good for two oil changes, and I can't think of a time I've gone two oil changes without a trip to an autoparts store.

Hey, just something to that might be a good thing to add that's not on here.. lol. Safety glasses. I say this cause it just saved my ass. There isn't a lot of clearance using that autozone oil catch container, and with the tiny little hole it has... yea. The nut slipped out of my hand, fell dead into the hole on the container blocking it, and the oil hit the nut, and actually bounced directly to my eye. Thankfully I had safety glasses on... I was laughing about it more than anything cause it was a one in a million shot and I always laugh about how using safety glasses is kinda lol for some stuff but.. yea.

So yea... never know when they'll save your ass. lol.

At home I have a full open pan to drain into so it's not a big deal but, since i'm just borring a garage and had to pick some stuff up while away I didn't wanna get anything I didn't actually need...

Another thing to note about those receptacles, is make sure the plug is open before you start draining oil into it. I messed that part up today and it spilled over. Quite a frustrating mess. To top it off, I forgot to put the drain hose onto the filter and spilled oil down onto the skid plate. Frustrating day.

You'd need a torque wrench. Honestly I don't use it, I just get it finger tight and "just a bit more" about maybe 1/8" on a socket wrench. The vacuum from the engine running will tighten it up even more. As long as it doesn't leak when you fill, you should be gold. I still check during filling, after the first run, then after my first drive. I'm just paranoid like that.

I am so tired of recepticles for drained oil. I have used both types - open pans and those with the lids. No matter what I try, it splashes. I do change my oil when it's warm and it flows out FAST!

I also hate trying to get the drain plug out without having the oil run down my arm. Yes, I wear gloves but I have had oil trickle into my armpit as I am still getting the plug out. Usually, I just do it fast and let it fall into the pan - then I get to go fishing in oil

Then, my open pan gets VERY full with 5.5L in it. Trying to slide it out from under there, pick it up and pour it into the funnel that sits in my empty laundry detergent bing - NOT EASY.

Finally, I don't usually wear goggles. Changing the wifes Jeep WK, I had the drain pan too far to one side. Oil hit right on the edge of the pan and right into my eyes (covered my face). The oil was hot and I was stuck under the vehicle. I brushed my forehead on the hot muffler as I was trying to wiggle out. I was a burnt mess and couldn't see anything.

SO....I AM DONE WITH ALL OF THAT! On my last oil change, I replaced the plug with a Fumoto Drain Valve (for both vehicles). Just flip open the valve and out comes the oil. It has a nipple to attach a 1/4" hose to. Run the hose right into the disposal container and you have a NO MESS OIL CHANGE.

Though I haven't done it yet, I expect the oil to take a few minutes to pour out of the 1/4" hose. I'll work on the oil filter while it's draining. I actually look forward to my next oil change!

I stay at the recomended intervals. Actually, I aim for 3500 miles. That puts my oil at around 60%. The way I feel...Oil is cheap, the engine isnt. I may be wasting by changeing before the oil is used up, but, whatever.

On my second oil change...I waited the 5000 that is recommended. It was from 4500 to 9500. The oil was much darker than expected. It was also dealer oil but I didn't like the look of it.

I am shooting for 4K on the next oil change and I am now running synthetic (Penz Plat).

I go 5000 +/- about 500mi with castrol syntec. There was some analysis done on bobistheoilguy by someone with a taco and it was excelling at 5k, could easily have been pushed to 9k they suspected.

Also Veccster, I feel your pain man, actually I don't that sounds like it'd hurt like hell. I'm still skeptical on that drain valve, for some reason I just fear it'll catch something on a trail or such and rip it open while i'm none the wiser....

Hey, just wanted to thank chris for his write up. Changed my oil for the first time this weekend (5020 mi). Everything went smooth, except.. I cheaped out when I got my oil pan instead of getting the harder plastic one that screws shut.. I got the flimsy one with the open top...well, it filled to the brim, lol. So, I had to carefully lift that and pour it into the old oil container.. spilt a good bit, so it got messy.

Next oil change I will have the better oil bucket, so it will be quick and clean.
