Just on the gasket.

Have you ever started a vehicle without the oil filter onNot that I've ever done ityou understand, but in about a second you have about 2 quarts of oil over everything.

Edit: Nevermind, I searched around some more and saw that it should work fine. Now if this one will fit my van, then I can just buy one filter for 3 of my rigs.

1348 is the called for replacement, 1516 is the same spec but longer, 1068 is short, but large diameter, and 1515 is long and large diameter. All of these share the same anti drainback, and are equipped with an 8-11lb bypass, have 3/4"-16 threads and all at some time have been specified on older Toyota cars/trucks.

I guess this is as good a place to ask as any. I am in the process of an oil changing marathon and got my napa gold filters. Already changed my 93 4runner and my 89 Toyota van (that was a bitch to change the filter), and was getting ready to do my wife's tacoma. Up till now, I've always had the dealer service it, since I got some free services when I bought it. Anyways, the napa gold filter #1348 is what I was given for the tacoma (which incidentally is the same one for my 4runner), and I noticed it is much shorter than the toyota oem one that is on the tacoma right now. I looked up online Napa and that is the correct filter # that is given. Is this the correct filter? Looks like it is the correct diameter and everything, just shorter, so it holds less volume.

Thanks

Thanks again for the detailed thread- I wouldn't have known about the filter drain hole sleeve/tube idea without it.

MAN that oil came out fast. I had my drain pan right underneath it and it still went everywhere.

A semi related question - whats the lifespan of the stock air filter?

Not gonna worry about it now then! Again, much help here. All I need is a better oil drain pan, it came out so fast it bounced off the pan and went everywhere. Next oil change I'm getting a fumato drain valve.

Trial and error. I did the same thing. Bounced right up into my face.

$25 later and the next change it's getting directed straight into an empty bottle. Fumoto is a great product. I bought one for both vehicles.
