I remember seeing what 'Janster' put up, and I didn't see anything wrong with it. Not sure why they or 'chris4x4' would have deleted it, didn't break any of the rules.

I don't support Jansters opinion on Fram filters, but She does have good things to say on here every once awhile and helps a lot of new members. And I don't think anyone has room to bash Her.

Does kinda have a point on the filters, we sure aren't engineers and don't know what we're talking about. Just comes down to what we think, but nothing wrong with that either.

Just my two cents.....don't want to get involved. lol

I've used to use the Tough gard, but lately Advance auto has had a deal going. You get 5qts of Castrol Syntec and a K&N filter for $26. Its half off you cant beat it! Great Post!

Nothing but OEM filters for me. Oh and Chris, for the rest of us they're about $7 compared to your $3, still a damn good price, plus they're designed for the specific engine and the parts guys always ask if you need a drain plug gasket.

Now...the cost of the precious red coolant you can't find at auto stores for less is a different story...seems Toyota is trying to get back on track from all the gas pedal lawsuits by killing us at $30 for a jug of the precious juice. I almost fell over but was forced to get it since I needed 2" of it to put in the puke tank.

About a month ago we switched my wife's domestic short hair cat, Maisey, to California Naturals herring and sweet potato dry food. We had previously been using a grocery store brand and had noticed a decreased level of energy and a significant weight gain. We are hoping that this move to a higher quality food will help with both of these issues. One thing that we have noticed since the switch is an stronger odor from the litter box area. Does anyone now if this will be a permanent change or more temporary as the cat's digestive tract grows accustomed to the new food?

Interesting read... My dealer has them on sale for time to time for $3 a pop. Been running YZZD3's since 05'.

But for $12 on sale, run a Fram air filter (stock) vs $20 for Toyota oem.

Any news on the K&N filter? On my first oil change I replaced the OEM with K&N which is half the size of the Toyota filter. Hard to tell the performance difference because the vehicle always runs much better after an oil change.

I have always used the OEM filters since I got the truck. I just didn't like the fact that the aftermarket filters were so small.

If the cat is still runnig a Fram filter, change it to an OEM and the odor will go away.

Maybe...But you have to compare a K&N thats made for the Tacoma. Filters seem to vary in components, and build, by vehicle they are made for. For example.....A Filter for the Toyota Tacoma will be made a little differently than the same filter (same brand, but different part number) for a different vehicle. Not sure why this is...

yea...youre totally putting words into his mouth..

and i dont know about you, but to me, cardboard is a shitty material...isnt that why bums sleep on it?

and also, when i buy a tv, or a dining table, or a couch (i know this is comparing apples to oranges, but its just a metaphor) i sure as hell dont want it made out of cardboard...

i have ran fram in all of my vehicles as well, and never had a problem with them, but like chris said, if im spending more money to put a better quality oil into my engine, then why not use a better quality filter?

and the whole "6x more protection" bs that fram throws on the packaging and turns out that its all the same on the inside, really speaks towards fram's business ethic...IMO

    .

Since my Tacoma gets more time than mileage on the clock and with a lot of city driving, I like great filtration & fresh lubricants.

IMO ... all vehicles should have "hour meters" and odometers for service intervals.

FWIW ... I like to use the best oil filter that is available (so far that has been a TRD and/or K&N filter) ... but I am open to something even better.

Thanks for the objective reviews, Chris. I'd love to see a TRD filter thrown into the mix to see if it's really that much better than the standard OEM. I know that might be a little cost prohibitive, though, at $12.

Looking forward to your other cutaways on filters spec'd for our trucks.
