So you want a wench, you are probably better off without one, they can be real nags.

A winch isn't a bad idea just make sure you have good support for one (probably want to get a bull bar) snatch blocks and tree saver straps.

Get a Hi-Lift jack and build a good recovery kit. A Hi-Lift can double as a winch and does a couple of other really useful things, such as lifting a wheel out of a hole so that you can backfill it with logs and rocks. Just make sure you pick up a 'Lift-Mate' accessory so you don't destroy your truck in the process.

Also, if you've never used a winch before find someone with experience that can teach you how to use it without killing yourself or someone else. Most people don't realize how deadly they are until they've seen someone nearly killed.

Lastly, after someone has taught you how to use it go on the internet and try to figure out everything they taught you that was wrong, then go back and teach them how to do it right.

Wenches can be fun to have along in the woods, however!
