I have been getting alot of PM's lately regarding people who contact you guys looking for springs/shocks, and wanting info or wanting to purchase OME springs, to be used with the Bilstien 5100 shocks. Im am hearing that you guys are telling folks that the OME springs will not work with the Bilstien 5100 shocks, and pushing them to buy the Eibach springs. Why? The OME springs work just fine on the 5100 shocks, and not only are many on here running that combo, but I have persoanlly installed, and driven trucks with the OME springs and 5100 shocks. Where are you getting your info?

Neither manufacturer recommends it. They will physically work and i have not heard of many problems (other than someone setting the C clip too high). We just cannot really go outside of the manufacturers recommendation. I have no idea if either of the companies would honor their warranty either.

    Thanks

Being as the OME springs are of a lower spring rate than the Eibachs, Warranty shouldnt be an issue for the bilstiens. As the OEM spring, when preloaded to 2.5" lift, is a higher spring rate than the OME spring, that shouldnt be a cause for concern either.

The heavier OME coils like the 886 would void the warranty on the 5100s. Bilstein does state these shocks are designed to be used with stock coils, Eibach designed the Toytec/Eibach front coils for stock shocks and the height adjustable 5100, neither Bilstein or Toytec has installed or tested any of the OME front coils on 5100 shocks, so it is hard for us to recommend the two be used together although we do know they will fit, I apologize if anyone was told they will not work together.
If the 886 OME coil was installed on a 5100 and the shock blew apart Bilstein would not warranty it.
Caution should be taken with mixing and matching shocks and coils, you can overextend the front 5100s from using too long of a coil that would give too much lift.

884's and the 885's. I dont see the 886's being an issue either, as they are a 650# rate, which is only 30#'s more than the Eibach 620# springs.

if bilstein says they are only warrantied for stock shocks, wouldnt the same thing you say about the OME coils voiding the warranty be true about the Eibach?

We have not had a problem getting warranty credit on the 5100's unless they are broken, that would be a sign of misuse or abuse.

Well....The OME springs wouldnt do any more damage, or add any more stress as opposed to the Eibach springs. IN many cases, they would yeild less tension over the Adjustable 5100's using the 620# Eibach springs.

They will physically fit together. However, we had Eibach design the springs for the 5100's and OME did not. As you have seen, OME springs do work on the 5100's but we can not recommend them, because we can not be held liable for someone breaking the shock or spring when neither manufacturer recommended them together.

Also, spring rate is not everything. The 886's are longer AND a higher spring rate. That means they will be preloaded more and the spring rate will be higher.

I've always thought it was ok to combine the two, as long as your not trying to gain more than .85 of lift from the 5100s.

You can use the OME springs on the 5100's. Some folks have set the 5100's at the .85" setting, but its not a good idea.

Sounds like they work well enough together but since there's no testing to prove it, both manufacturers are covering their ass (and would probably rather sell you their product).

Correct. The OME and EIbach springs are designed essentially the same. Same wire diameter. Ends are the same too. The only difference is the various spring rates, and lengths. In fact, Toytec sells the OME 884 springs for use with stock shocks. They do recomend different shocks for use with the 885's and 886's, but the only difference between the 884's and 885's is 10mm in length. The 886's are made with thicker wire and a higher spring rate. Personally, You shouldnt use any aftermarket spring with the OEM shocks. They arent designed to dampen the higher spring rates. As far as which shock to use, The OME and 5100's are valved the same 255/140, both are speed sensative, but one (OME) is a low pressure twin tube shock, while the 5100's are a high pressure, mono tube shock.

this thread couldn't have come at a better time. i'm debating the eibachs or the 883s. they are only 0.1" height difference but i wonder how much different the ride is with both. anybody here have personal experience with both and know which they think is better or if you can really tell diff?
