dropped washer in defrost.

About 6 months ago I set a plastic washer on my dash not thinking. when I went to get it I bumped it and watched in dismay as it slid down in to the defrost opening. now every time I turn stop or speed up I hear it slip and slide in my dash it sounds like it is right in front of the instrument panel. I am at a lose as what to do has this happened to any one and if so how did you get it out? any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Its nearly impossible. Why did you drop a plastic one. Steel is much easier.

You could always try the "putting something sticky" down there solution. Look in from outside.. try the 3 prong grabby fingers if you can see it. Maybe even a coat hanger or similar hook.
You may also be able to get to it from behind the radio. I'm not sure of how the vents on these things are piped, but usually you can get to one or 2 joints behind the radio. Probably just for such an instance.

 

Well at least it's plastic. It can't short anything out.

 

I tried the grabber thing but I didn't have any luck I guess I'm stuck listening to that d@& thing!

 

I will try taking the radio out like island said maybe I will be able to get to it there. Thanks for the ideas.

 

I was just looking at the grate today while applying rainx. Must be pretty small. You sure its in the vents and not in front of the dash below the windshield?

And I was serious about using glue or something. Get a spray glue or something, try to get a layer of it in there, then drive or do whatever you can to get that thing stuck in it and wait for it to dry. Its ghetto, but people do it.

I've opened up a few doors to find all the broken glass in the bottom stuck in there with spray glue so they didn't have to worry about vacuuming out the door panel well. Of course, then the gluey glass causes a dam in the door and water starts accumulating. Then you find me taking off the door panel to do body work and discovering glass-crete.
