I called my local Toyota service shop and asked how much for a "tune up" on my 2007 with approx. 55,000.

They said $1,031.34. This is without replacing the front and rear diff oil. I've recently done that (local Kwik Car Oil change place). Don't get me started on that....the Kwik car guys forgot to add the "additive" for my LSD. That's why I'm calling the Toyota Service Guys.

I'm not very good and doing "auto" stuff...and just what I've read on here about chaning the spark plugs sounds like a pain.

Question: Is $1,031.34 BS or does that sound right? Listed below is what they would do....this is straight from the maintenance book.

    Thanks for your help.

    q
Replace engine oil and oil filter1

    q
    Rotate tires

    q
Replace limited-slip differential oil, if equipped (4WD and PreRunner)

    q
    Replace spark plugs2

    q
    Re-torque propeller shaft bolt

    q
    Replace engine air filter

    q
Replace cabin air filter (if equipped)

    q
    Lubricate propeller shaft (4WD)

    q

    3

    4

    __ Drive belts
    5

    __ Drive shaft boots (4WD)
    __ Engine coolant
    6

__ Engine valve clearance (except Tacoma with 2TR-FE)
    __ Exhaust pipes and mountings
    __ Front differential oil (4WD)
__ Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
    __ Fuel tank cap gasket

to me it sounds like to much, and it seems like alot of unnecessary maintenance since your truck has such low miles I may be wrong. On my first gen I just did the filters, sparks and all oil and it cost me a a little over 300 bucks. And that's really all that's been done to my truck and I'm about ready to break 185000 miles

A lot of that stuff you can take to some shops like Firestone and get a complete vehicle inspection for cheap. What kind of tires do you have on your truck? I know if you have Bridgestone or Firestone tires they wil rotate them for free.

Shouldn't cost more than 300-350 for all of that. the spark plugs are going to be the expensive part... about 100 for labor and 30ish for the plugs. front, rear and transfer case at a dealer will cost you about 50 bucks each so 150 total (it is easy to do yourself and there are great how to's on this site) all the rest is just little stuff that they can check for cheap... hope you can get a more ethical mechanic in the future but just be glad you didn't go and pay for that. one more think you might want to do is transmission oil... oh yeah, cabin and engine air filters are a no brainer to change and that will save you about 100 bucks doing it yourself (dealership is insane)

You might want to check out an independent shop that specializes in Japanese vehicles, assuming they have those in OK.:D They are generally far more reasonable.

If you ever go to Kwikee-Loob again, you will be banned from TW. ;)
