People want cheap service so they get it. Oil changes for $26
When I do oil change it takes me 2-3 hours. Clean, check, replace filter, clean area around the filter, torque to spec drain plug, add oil, wait for oil to flow to oil pan check level if it is atlest above first dot. Fire up the engine warm up, torque drain plug to spec. shutdown wait 5 minutes for oil to come down again and top to second dot level.
I take my time but when I am done I know its done right. So how people get oil changes done for $26 is beyond me.

In all honesty I highly doubt toyota will give you a new engine without first checking the engine. As others have said get the engine checked out by a few people, but don't count on toyota giving you anything but a extended warrenty. Even that might not happen, dealerships don't want to give you free things when they don't have to. I read in the paper that some US toyota factors might close due to the situation in Japan, and that is definetly not going to help your cause.

Ok, just got off the phone with my brother, 30 years service manager for Volvo, has been building big dollar hot rods for the last 15 years. If all it did was idle it is fine, he has seen test engines idle for 20 minuets with out oil and they were fine. If you are running synthetic it could even go longer.

Agree check compression on the cylinders this will give you a good idea if there was any scoring done to the Cyl. walls, also shoot for an extended warranty just in case any damage presents its ugly head later on

Long story short...Nissan dealership forgot to put oil back in our 2007 Altima with 7800 miles. I drove it about 4 miles. They bought the car back from us. In the end we drove the car for about 1 year and 3 months for $1,000.

I'll chime in and say that if it was my truck I would have raised 7 kinds of hell. For the simple fact that it was and oil change and the primary ingredient was left out for a short time. I would have at that time made the situation appear worse to enable them to talk me down from say a new motor to a free extended warranty. Best bet to make a scene is not to get physical but to inform all the people inside the dealership in an audible collected fashion. The technique works, and aids you in having people on your side, most people want to help the guy getting screwed by the big company. I have gotten my dealership to pay me for my drive to the dealership, ordered pizza/drinks for the lobby all while waiting patiently and talking softly. Not to mention I thank everyone for their assistance.

Now back to your situation in reality if it were my motor I would bet it is more than ok, I have witnessed a 1000 Hp engine drained of synthetic oil, then ran for up to 5 min, making maximum hp and Tq, with out any negative affects. Motor is still in use today, its been over 6 yrs. If I were you I would simply ask for some warranty to ensure your peace of mind.

Do you mean to say that it didn't have oil in it and previously had synthetic in it?

didnt this same thing just happen to another member? possibly from canada? if i recall he drove off the lot of the dealership with no oil, went a few miles, then the oil light came on and he realized they never refilled it. after a bunch of tests the motor was fine but they ended up giving out an extended warranty.

id be salty as hell if that happened to my truck (but i do my own oil changes so it wont) but in all reality your truck is probly fine.

let me try and dig up that other thread

Its easier to understand when written correctly, not only that but it makes much more sense in this situation. lol.
