I installed an activator III on my 2009, V6 with towing package. All went as per instruction on this site, however I am confused when I meter the voltages. I have 12v all the time on the black wire OK, 12v on the brake green wire when pressing the brake OK, BUT I have 12v on the output red wire all the time also. Shouldn't it be open circuit until the brake is pressed or the remote is pressed?
    Thanks
    Gary

I had a Tekonsha P3 in my Tacoma. I bought the $12 Tekonsha harness for the Tacoma off Amazon and it plugged right in under the dash. My truck had a factory hitch.

Being mindful that the Tacoma is a midsize and a NA V6 I thought it towed great. I towed my 30hp 4wd Kubota with it many times on my 18ft car hauler. Weight Distributing hitch helps a lot. I was definitely way over the factory rating but never felt unsafe. I thought the truck actually felt more secure than towing with my 1500 Ram which was actually rated to tow that much.

Tekonsha p2 has been awesome for me. I also bought the adaptor from them to plug directly into the truck. Ordered all mine from etrailer.com. Hardest part of the install was finding where the had the plug in the truck tucked up in there. Have experience with several different tekonsha controllers in different size truck and to me they’re much better than most of the factory controllers.

What'd you use for the black mounting piece? Definitely looks good.

I wonder how the Spectrum compares to the Redarc?
