arb Lockers and vsc/limited slip, etc

i have a 2009 double cab tacoma, 4wd sport with the limited slip. i understand that the limited slip is actually done in electronically in the transmissin or transfer case, (so Im Told). i am having arb's put in botrh front and rear diffs, what do i do about the vsc/limited slip?? would like to turn it off forever, anyone out there have any ideas or suggestions?

Seriously... The Tacomas are awesome in wet weather even in 2WD with VSC and TRAC... No more spinning out of the back end when cornering with an empty bed, and the TRAC in H4 is a big traction boost over open differentials (at least it is with the Off Road TRD's hydraulic brake booster)...

Now, by adding front and rear lockers, you have a near-ultimate off road Tacoma with a Sport body... Only thing really left to do besides good tires is to swap out the scooped hood with a high visibility hood for the steep grades you can climb with those lockers!

I love my truck, however the only problem i have is with its 6" lift, 35" tires, when ever i corner the vsc kicks in, pumps the brakes, makes the sound under the hood, and cuts the power. it wouldnt be bad if it was happening if i corner too fast, but it does it when im cornering normally. i took it to the dealer twice and didnt get any improvement. it kinda made me mad cause i bought the vehicle brand new with the 6" lift and 35" tires installed.
you guys have any ideas?

You may want to try resetting the system as outlined in this post. Be sure to read Crom's posts: #2 and #12. Or, you might have success asking the dealer to perform the reset.

Should be ok... The weak link is either the R&P if stock or the CV axles. A good point was made to me that if you have a weak point it would be better for it to be the CV axles because of the ease of trail replacement over other possible parts that could break.

Simple... the OP seems to want an ultimate off road truck, but bought a Sport... so he has to add front and rear lockers... that means only two items are left to address to = an Off Road TRD... the tires and the hood. No insult intended, just the facts. Honestly, the tires on the Off Road aren't a whole lot better than the street tires on the Sport.

Sure, you can drive a scoop hood truck anywhere... it is just nice to have as much visibility as possible, that is all.

When I four wheeled with HB Murphy in Baja, he had me laughing when he said not only where the Sport hoods bad, but the Off Road hoods would be better if he could flip his around so it would be even lower! Too cool!

Christian, I never said the Off Road was the ultimate... re-read... I said the guy with the Sport wants the ultimate... so he is getting lockers.

For those who want to get a factory equippped truck with the most traction, then that would be the Off Road 4WD... isn't that what you have? Do you ever use it? How about some photos? The others, you need to chill and stop being so angry that you don't have it! I am happy with my Toyota... VERY HAPPY!

 

If you have lockers, and they are turned on, you won't have one tire per axle slipping... so the limited slip system would never activate with the lockers on... seems simple logic to me... Nothing to turn off first. TRAC/ VSC/ A-TRAC uses spin sensors at each wheel... no spin, then no activation.

 

I am a big fan of how my truck has no traction control.

Christian, this is a discussion forum... and if every thread just was a question and answer page... with no other ideas or different thinking... would be pretty dry, don't you think?

I don't care what people drive... I have wheeled with a lot of Sport TRDs... and they admit the Off Road has more ability... and wish they had it. The hate rants are not called for, and if you can't just say what is great about your truck or what the difference is, then making up stuff is dumb. Just the facts, that's all.

I am talking pure factory equipped comparing... As I said... the OP wants ultimate traction, so he is adding a few thousand dollars for front and rear lockers. You just don't have to spend the extra money if you get an Off Raod with A-TRAC, that's all... and not enough dealers bother to sell the Off Roads as being able to do what they do. I wheeled with fully locked rigs in Baja (both TW members) and my A-TRAC did everything they did, only easier... I didn't need to turn off A-TRAC to turn sharp corners like they had to with their front lockers.

Because so many here still don't know or won't admit that Toyota made a good product that can compete with front locked rigs, I will calmly and nicely share what I have discovered... no name calling, profanity, insults.

OP wrote that his ATRAC is acting stupid and it is trying to kill him on flat road. If ATRAC can not handle little bigger tires and lift thats no way better option then lockers. Think about this, what happens when your over size tire goes flat and you need to get somewhere to change it.
ATRAC is worst idea ever. Judging from number of broken offroads on this forum it seems that most capable trucks are non-TRD offroad
