Cv Boot Question

I need a cv boot , my mechanic said he replaces the whole assembly, axlee and all . He said it is cheaper than just doing the boots ,does this sound right? And how hard would it be to do it myself? thanks

 

I thought this same thing, I even ordered new boots but when I got into look at it, I came the conclusion it is alot easier to just change the hole thing. Either way you have to take the hole CV out to be able to change the boot, then you have to clean the CV joint very well so that you can repack it with special grease then put new boot on with no air bubbles. Doesn't sound easy. Hope this helps.

Find another mechanic. Just like going to a doctor you can always get a second opinion

 

Its easier just to change out the entire cv, the cost is a bit more but since you have to remove em anyway might as well have new parts goin back in. If only changin the boots you've got to do a very thorough cleaning, any bit of dirt can damage the cv.

Just do the whole thing. Yoour mechanic is correct. Main question is why did you blow the CV boot in the first place. Was it from debri or areyour CV angles to high.

Just curious...how many of those 80,000 miles has the lift been on and do you have a differential drop installed?

Price for a cv range from around 50$-200$ a piece depending on brand, and install is free if u do it yourself.

 

Yes I have a dropped difff spacers. I am in the dirt and mud alot so what brand of boot should I get to hold up well?
