Most dealers are your run-of-the-mill folks. Anyone can be a dealer for paying a yearly fee.

Yes - most of your dealers will be personal addresses... Find your local dealer person and send them an e-mail. Ask him/her if there is a local Amsoil distribution center near you.
I'm lucky that I have one about a mile from where I work. I don't even deal with the dealer. I call the distribution center, place my order, and drive in to pick it up. But I still have to have a 'dealer' as a referrer (so to speak) and I'm listed as a *Preferred Customer * (I think that's what its called - pay yearly fee for this). I'm not sure if because I'm a 'preferred customer' - that it allows me to visit the distribution center directly or not?

My father has been using Amsoil for the past 5-6 years with no problems. I think he changes it at half the change interval mileage. I think that for him, that's about once a year. By all means go with whatever you are comfortable with.
They also have some pretty cool by-pass filters, but you have to send an oil sample in for testing to know when to change your oil. I think you can become a preferred customer or dealer pretty easily. My father did it just by calling Amsoil up and talking to them. It gets shipped right to his house. |

I have two vehicles at home that are *pleasure* vehicles that see less than 5,000 miles yearly. I change the engine oil once a year with synthetics.

now it makes it think, i think amsoil is better than mobil 1.. Amsoil says, 100% synethic oil and mobil 1 says fully synethic... then again mobil 1 came out his load thing call Advanced fuel enocomy mobil1 which saves gas and also only in 0w-20 or 0w-30.. can i put 0w-30 in my tacoma? it says 5w-30, i mean i can put in 10w-30 |

i use mobil1 and pennzoil platinum since they are readily available around here most places, and you can get them in a 5 quart jug at walmart for around $20 to$25 which isnt bad at all.

I started using Amsoil 5w-30 earlier this year before I got my Taco. I like it so far. Used to use Mobil 1 on my Pathfinder cause I lived too far away from my dad to pick up any Amsoil from him. Before that used Valvoline Durablend on an 86 Bronco II and it really cleaned the sludge out of that engine. So well the valve cover gaskets started to leak....
Amsoil just seems(?) to have been doing the full synthetic thing longer than everyone else. |
