Sealed transmissions?

Whats the deal with this? Im pretty sure my 2nd gen 2.7l is a sealed transmission meaning i cannot refill / flush my own tranny fluid, i have to have a dealer do it? What would happen if someone drained their tranny fluid out by accident? - no i didnt do this lol. Just looking for information on these and how they work.

05+ 2.7 has a tranny dipstick and is not sealed.

Drivers side, back near the firewall.
