i have some experience with LED's...

i wired some up to a 9v battery for a project a couple of weeks ago. you are definately going to need resistors. well, that is... unless you like watching your LED's pop the first time you turn them on.

unfortunately, there are a lot of factors to consider when looking at LED's.

    -type of LED (Color, brightness)
    -power supply (voltage, amps etc)
    -how many bulbs

www.theledlight.com is a good place to start, and buy what you need.
