Drive Shaft making weird noises?

The other day driving in 1st and 2nd gear low RPMs i heard this odd ticking noise... i lifted my rear wheels off the ground with a jack and when the section of drive shaft coming out of my rear diff. spins at a certain point it'd almost like rub and make a squeek... when it spins faster it starts to tick. i checked the U joints and it has no play in it and theyre lubed up... any suggestions?

 

I dont think so bec it almost sounds like its inside but im not sure

 

Pull the driveshaft and flex the u-joints. They should be smooth. Any sign of resistance, noise, grittiness=replacement.

mine made a ticking noise only in reverse one of three bad at 94000

 

A ball joint press will make short work of u-joints. Measure the u-joint cup size, the size of the ear that holds the joint, and the size of the press' cups to make sure it fits. The cups on the press must fit on the ear to make room for the ujoint cup.

 

I brought my truck into the dealer and they said that my u joint is "broken" and I'm getting a whole new drive shaft in 2 days covered under warenty .... sweet !

Update.... truck got finished today... now they say apparently that internally in the drive shaft a gear sheared but all under warenty
