Here's the problem. I have an 06 Taco 4X4 V6 TRD. I recently noticed a humming noise (like tire hum) and slight vibration. I think it's coming from the front end. I have checked the CV joints and the left housing appears to be loose. The tripod is tight in the housing but the housing moves side to side and in and out about 1/8th inch. Does anybody know if there are any tolerances for this? Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Check your wheel bearings for free movement, slop, and movement. If it feels like there's sand or gravel in there, or there is excessive movement, replace them.
You can tell when it's a bearing by going around corners. If it goes away on a left turn and not a right, it's a bearing going bad, and vice/versa.
