Independent offroad lights

Ok, I'm trying to wire up my lights and I want to operate them independently of the headlights. I also want to be able to turn them on without the truck being on. Do I still have to run a wire to the headlights? I can't seem to get them to work...

I bought Hella 500FF lights.

nope...dont have to wire them to the head lights. 2 wires from the switch....one to hot on lights, one to positive on abttery, with a fusible link, then the ground on the lights, bring them to the ground on the battery. this is with no relay either. wired lights like this alot...never had any problems....just dnt forget to turn them off.

Check out this link: http://www.hella.com/produktion/Hell.../FAQs/FAQs.jsp

Check out the Basic Wiring Diagram. This is what I have. I have run the wires like this (except the green one) and none of it is working...

you should have a hot wire off the battery to the switch (with a fuse somewhere)...then a ground from the switch and a hot wire from the switch to the lights...and both lights should be grounded

why do HAVE to run the wires like that?? wire them like i said, without the relay, and they will work fine. you need to use a 15 amp fuse inline at the battery on the hot wire.

i agree...delete the relay and run a basic wire setup like we just described and make sure you have good grounds...a bad ground could cause it to not work

I wired it like that because they came with the relays. The line from the battery has a 15A fuse inline...

I'll see if I can wire it up like yours.

nah...you'll get it this time. just take your time. be sure to ground the lights to the battery though.....dont go the easier route and ground them to the frame or a bolt or something.......that aint too great of an idea.
