vibrations gone, vibrations back...

    i installed a 1/4 inch spacer on my center carrier bearing and the vibrations went out for a month or two... now it's back! same vibration feel that i had before i installed the spacer. could it be the carrier bearing itself? it's a 2002 taco. i don't do offroad, don't haul and carry mostly light stuff. how much play should there be on the carrier bearing? how do you know if it's worn out? is it an easy DIY?
