Just changed my spark plugs for my 06 tacoma (auto 4cyl). Changed them with the Xp autolite from the autostore and now the "malfuntion light" and the accelerator doesn't work.

Was fine prior to the change, so I'm assuming it's the new spark plugs. Waiting for it to cool down before I exchange them...should I exchange them or go with the stock (denso) ones? Or other issues?

Hmm... IIRC, the I4 models came with denso iridium plugs and shouldn't be changed until 90,000 miles on them. Well, that's what the tech at the dealer told me when I had my I4 in for service.

Stands to reason that you should replace them with the same or comparable plugs, but I would recommend the denso iridiums. Just gap them correctly, add anti-seize, and make sure that the coil packs go back to the correct cylinder and you'll be g2g.

You could just have a connection issue, as in a loose coil pack or incorrect coil pack to cylinder.

thanks! I think it was as you said coil connection...just redid connections and seems fine now. Just got to reset the "MIL" that came on from this and should be good.

Just bought an 07 Taco 4.0 at 70k. Changing evrything out. Checked out instructions on s. plugs. Didn't do anything like disconnect battery. Just swapped them out. Running really rough and making a vacuum sound. Almost stalls when braking. Is there a thread I haven't found that might explain where I screwed up? I'm going to check vacuum lines before I restart. The plugs were shot and I thought maybe the computer was trying to recalibrate. I only drove it a mile at 35mph max.

What else did you change out at the same time as the spark plugs? Did you put OEM plugs back in and torque them properly? As stated above, check all connections, make sure they're all snug and that you didn't mix up wires.

Used NKG's long thread. Didn't R and R anything else. Did disconnect some vacuum lines on drivers side. Did one at a time to avoid switching connectors.
