You know what I don't see on here (even in silverback07's list)?

Security System!!!

This will be my next upgrade as petty crime is on the rise everywhere. I am looking for a good system that I can install myself with a few extra "tricks" on board. I am open to recommendations. I plan on doing remote start.

I didn't count things which came from the dealer, such as my alarm or leather. I suppose a better alarm would be nice to have, but the Taco is parked indoors everynight and at work I can see it from my window. Not too worried but that alarm above does seem very nice.

Security System!!!

This will be my next upgrade as petty crime is on the rise everywhere. I am looking for a good system that I can install myself with a few extra "tricks" on board. I am open to recommendations. I plan on doing remote start.

I am looking at doing this:

Viper 5601 1-Way SuperCode Security and Remote Start System

http://www.viper.com/P-5102V/Viper+5...e+Start+System

Protect your vehicle from thieves and vandals, and start your engine with the push of a button from up to 2,000 feet away. The Viper 5601 features two slender and elegant 5 button SuperCode remote controls. Based on the Best of Innovations Award-winning 2-Way Responder LE Security and Remote Start System, this is the value-priced 1-Way version.
Includes all of the key vehicle security components including the Stinger® DoubleGuard® shock sensor, Failsafe® Starter Kill and Revenger® 6-Tone Siren, plus the very latest in Remote Start technology, including Virtual Tach, D2D and XPRESSPORT™.
Features:
  • 2000’ range
  • New, slim 5-button remote controls (two)
  • New Priority™ user interface with easy 2-car operation
  • Control Center™ with integrated Status LED and Valet Switch
  • Virtual Tach™ RPM sensing
  • D2D serial data interface for Xpresskit D2D serial data interface modules
  • XpressPort dock for Xpresskit docking serial date interface modules
  • Flex Relays for remote start and light flash
  • Manual Transmission Mode
  • Car Finder
  • Advanced remote start functions: Timer Start, Smart Start, RunTime Reset
  • Failsafe® Starter Kill
  • Revenger® Soft Chirp Six-Tone Neo Siren
  • Onboard Stinger® DoubleGuard® remote-adjustable shock sensor
  • Warn-Away: low-volume, brief warning signal for questionable threats
  • Inputs for doors, hood, and trunk monitoring
  • Progressive Door Trigger
  • NPC™ Nuisance Prevention Circuitry software
  • Silent Mode arming and disarming
  • Ports for optional tilt, glass break, cabin, and proximity sensors
  • Keyless entry with optional progressive driver’s unlocking
  • Trunk Release plus 3 AUX outputs
I was actually looking at the two-way version of this alarm, but mainly for remote start (since I live in the land of the frozen tundra). I also liked this one because the remote wasn't the size of a brick with an antennea.

However, it was going to take them almost an entire day to do the install and since I live alone, it was going to be difficult logistically. So, I took that $500 and put it into my sound system. I'll add it later...

Yeah the 5602 (2-way alarm) has many more features, and (from what I am told) has to be installed by a professional. However, the 5601 (1-way alarm) can be installed by a reasonably talented person, and it still has the remote start, code hopping, RPM sensing, and so on.

Also, I like the remote. It doesn't look like these other cheesy ones that make it look like you have a rice rocket. I know that is a dumb reason to like it (especially with all the other features), but my truck is sleek - the remote should be too.

Yeah, features be damned, I was going to chose the alarm because of that remote... I actually didn't notice the 5601 (until recently), nor do I even know all of the features of either model.

It was really all about the remote. Then, I thought about painting the remote just like that guy that painted his key fob...
