ut to get your truck running again if it were victim to an emp you would need as stated above, new ECU, ignition, any other major electrical parts, and those parts would have had to survive the emp as well otherwise is a waste of time.

if your truely worried about an EMP scenario then I would suggest getting an early 80's or 70's model truck.

 

Have a friend who worked on a large project for NORAD on EMP "proofing" their systems. Said in general cars won't be affected because they're already shielded in sheet metal.

its an irrelevant question because ultimately your truck would be destroyed or you'd be killed by the nuclear blast that caused the EMP.

you don't think the atmosphere could take care of the radiation? EMPs are caused by a nuclear explosion up in the atmosphere, not on the ground.

if the explosion was on the ground, i agree, i don't think i'd have to worry aobut my truck running. lol

If we had diesels we would be just fine with just replacing the ECU. If you have a manual then you switch it to carb and push start it.

I am curious if the pink and charcoal ESD bags used for shipping and storing electronic components will offer the same protection as a faraday cage. Being that a faraday cage could also be made using aluminum foil essentially. Thoughts?

 

The police have mini- emp boxes that they can shoot out of the front of their bumpers, and the box rolls up underneath your engine, disabling your car. It doesn't destroy the electronics, but you can imagine what a nuke could do, or the box could do if they upped the wattage....

 

Switch to vacuum tube based electronics won't bother them. Don't laugh that's what the Russians use in their tanks.
