Ok, so i could really use some help... in short i work in a crappy place in Camp Pendleton and sometimes have to take it on muddy roads. I came across one that was about a mile long about half the tire size deep, since it rained last week and i ran my 2012 4x4 no more than 25 mph, and got the truck a little dirty!!

The next day I go to work and my battery light comes on, check out the BOOK, and its a charging malfunction. I call toyota care since its got 2029 miles on it, and get it towed to Toyota, they call me 5 hrs later and pretty much tell me your fucked you owe us $107 diagnostic fee and itll be $1000 to get it fixed.

There story.... they told me i submerged the entire engine in water, and are telling their could be more problems with it. They found water and mud under neath the plastic engine cover.

MY THEORY.... If i submereged the shit in water, my intake would be screwed, intake sensors would be done, engine lock, hydro lock etc...

Currently googling some attorneys i probably cant afford for this small claim.

Any ideas what i can do to fix the alternator, or anything please!!

Well you could try to fix it yourself. An alternator is a pretty easy fix. Wouldn't surprise me if you took it out, cleaned it and it worked good as new. Check all the diodes and run it. If not take it to another shop (much cheaper maint fee's) Either way if you get mud up there your warranty is gone.

That sucks man I'm sorry! I know a buddy who did something similar off roading and got it towed out from the trails but Toyota fixed it no questions asked.

yea man, i've been hit with the diagnostics fee before, it sucks. My best advice is to either:
    - Clean your truck off REAL good and take it to another dealership
    - Fix it yourself

Hope it all works out okay. I can't imagine the alternator is any different from an 05-12, these trucks are no longer a new design. No reason an alternator should cost $1000.

No reason why a new, fancy "off road" edition truck shouldn't be able to run through a puddle every now and then either.

Those guys are a bunch of dirt merchants for even messing with you on this.
