Check your warranty, if I remember correctly the emission control system has a long warranty like six or seven years. If so get it back to Toyota.

Personally I would replace the cats so you keep low end power. In the end it is up to you.

Try cleaning the cats before you spend hundreds for new ones.

Theres no way to clean out the cats. If the turck is throwing cat codes then the only thing to do is replace them. Toyota does have a longer warranty on cats so it wouldnt be a bad idea to look into that. But if your going to replace them then I suggest only toyota factory parts and not aftermarket ones because they never last.

Detergent, enzymes or citric acid can be used to clean a cat. The material inside gets coated with greasy soot and it reduces it's efficiency. As long as the material is not melted, it can be cleaned out.

This cat is clogged. Remove the offending particles, and it will work again.

Federal law mandates a 70,000 mile warranty on emissions components in the US.

It might be... it's been a LOOOONG time.

I had an emissions issue on my '91 Ford Escort at about 65k back in '94 and the dealer fixed it saying they had to fix it up to 70k.
