I also, have experienced this rattle. The only time my 08 does this is when its cold. I believe ice is under the mirror base and the ice is making the noise when driving in windy conditions. Of course my dealer has never heard of this rattle!!!

I developed this on my 09'. Seemed to come and go with the weather.

I was just talking to a Toyota tech on the phone and though he hadn't seen this on a Tacoma specifically, had seen it with other models.

He said they just take the cover off of the mirror, add some 'insulation' (presumably a buffer of sorts) and that takes care of the vibration.

I should find out later today...

Mine just started it too. Very loud and annoying. Tightening the mirror did not help.

Make sure it isn't the little lower corner windshield cowl piece.

    Test it for play.

My Driver Side mirror has the shakes above 55 mph on my 2007 double cab 4x4 Taco. Vehicle rides perfectly smooth and is confirmed by the other 2 mirrors being rock steady. Tried to have dealer look at it as its still under warranty but they said it is within limits. Should I try the insulation method by removing the cover?

I just adjusted my mirror placement to suit my driving and stuffed a couple earplugs under the bottom side of the mirror between the housing and lower edge of the mirror itself. Temp fix but it works fine here.

Mine does it every few months. Take a flat head screwdriver, pop the screw cover off(under mirror). Use a torx to tighten the screws. (torx is like a screwdriver, but in a star pattern. I can't remember the size of the torx. It is in my truck, I'll check later.
