This might be a stupid question but what the hell. Why would you need to lock the front hubs if the vehical is a awd...wouldn't the front allready be engaged?

No I mean I have the option to put it into AWD if I want. I guess it's a selective AWD. Otherwise I'm just RWD. :)

AWD is different from 4WD. My friend had to rebuild his T case and tranny because he thought the same thing.

I guess the simple question needs to be asked:

Why would you need/want to engage 4WD on dry pavement?

Poor driving skills is one reason. But that is a WHOLE diff story.

I have been doing off road medical rescue for two years now in NV and in Baja races. Even on course I have yet to need 4wd.

    Hi all.

Here is an exerpt from my owners manual ...

    "■
    Four-wheel drive usage frequency

You should drive in four-wheel drive for at least 10 miles (16 km) each
    month.
This will assure that the front-drive components are lubricated."

I do it on wet pavement from a rain for a few km.

Your tires will scrub when you corner in H4. Yes it puts a strain on your driveline but as long as you don't turn sharp with lots of throttle you won't hurt anything.

I tested my new truck in a parking lot on dry pavement. I put it into H4 and drove slow while turning the steering wheel so I could feel the binding to make sure it was actually in 4WD. I did the same to check out L4. As I said, I used very little throttle and only turned untill I could feel the binding (about a half a turn on the steering wheel)

    Cheers.

Don't forget while cruising around in 4WD to have it in R for 'Race' mode. You know how you look at tires spinning real fast and they look like they're going backwards? Well you'll go so goddamn fast the entire planet will look like it's going in reverse.
