Scratched camshaft lobe

I was doing my first valve adjustment on my 03 Tacoma with 4cyl 2rz engine and I scratched camshaft lobe. It is pretty light. Should I buff it out with sandpaper or leave it as it is?

 

welcome to TW. how big is the scratch - could you catch a finger nail on it? i would be leary about buffing it out and would probably leave it alone

 

I don't think it's deep enough to catch a fingernail. I will check again tomorrow, I left it at work since the dealer already closed and I needed new shims.
How scratched camshaft *lobe* (EDIT) can affect anything? Everywhere they tell you to be careful not to scratch it but don't actually mention what might happen or how it can be fixed...

 

The only thing that will be hitting this scratch is shim on top of the valve lifter.
Should I be worried if the scratch is light (you can't catch a fingernail on it)?

agreed, but how do you even scratch these? might b able to be buffed out by hand

 

Yeah I checked again and I couldn't catch a fingernail on it. I think it was my little screwdriver when I was trying to get the shim out. It's all back together and the engine idles much smoother now.
What would you buff it with and is the surface hardened on those camshafts?
