Installing CB, question on antenna length

I bought a 4' firestik today and after looking at where I plan to install it I really dont want it that high. I was thinking about exchanging it for a 3'. My reasoning is that I will not need the reach of a 4' because all I really will need it for is wheeling.

My question is that is a 3' gonna be long enough to reach a mile or so?

And will a 9' coax be long enough to reach from the dash to the front of the bed?

 

I went with a 2' antenna and it works for wheeling. So a 3' antenna should be fine.
and 9' of coax should be fine. (but dont quote me on that cause I see you have a double cab long bed) Just take some string and measure

My wife told me I have to compensate, so we are going with dual 9' whips. lol

 

3' will be fine. I've been able to hit over a mile with my 2'.

 

I used a 16' section of coax. There was no extra. Also I know you want a shorter antenna but you should have at least 2/3 of it above your roof. If not yout signal will be mostly to your rear and not out in front of you.

 

9' of coax prob won't be enough, i see you have a DC, i do too and i used all but a few feet of a 20' coax, i ran it up under the cab through the hole in the floor then under the carpet next to the seat belt latch on the drivers side

 

Edited my previous post. My cb, or everything but the face, is under the seat. I ran the coax through the grommet in the floorboard and followed the frame to the bed and up to my antenna. i had no extra.
