Have had my 2012 Tacoma DCSB PreRunner TRD Sport V6 for a month and a half and have a question about Fuel Tank Capacity and the low fuel light. I always fill up soon after the Low Fuel light comes on and the most fuel I can get in the tank is about 17 to 17.5 Gals. The Owners Manual says the tank capacity is 21.0 Gals. If my calculations are correct (by no means am I a rocket scientist or a mathmatician), then I should still have 4 Gals left in the tank when the light comes on. I guess I am scared of running it completely out of gas and being stranded since I am still learning the characteristics of my truck. Anyone know how many more miles I can drive with the low fuel light on before running out? I know some of it will depend on me keeping my heavy right foot under control. :D

Depends on your MPG. :D Ultragauge also shows 4 gallons left when light comes on.

Thanks. Thought that might be right. According to fuelly.com I am averaging 17.1 MPG

Obviously it's going to vary a little on your mileage, but you're correct - the general rule is about 4 gallons once the lights comes on. There are a few threads floating around here about this

Been filling up around the 311 Mile mark on trip meter. Is it possible that I could get another 68 miles out of the 4 Gals?? I do not think I would push it that far, but would settle for 30 more. :)

Possible but be careful, quickest way to shorten the life of a fuel pump is to run it dry. I never go below half tank if i can avoid it.
