We had the same thing at GM, Technical Assistance. I was actually offered a job with them once. It is a difficult job to have for sure.

Can't just lemon a car that easy. There has to be a failure that has been diagnosed, and repairs MADE 3 times in the same system before you can even THINK of trying to call Lemon Law, which is different from the Magnison Moss Act by the way.

    Let's hope it all worked!!!

Glad to hear your truck is up and running. Just curious, was the repair covered under your warranty or did you pay out of your pocket?

    Thanks :)
It was covered under warranty so I didn't pay a cent. If I would've been presented with a bill I would have fought it because they refused a rental (which I qualify for with my warranty coverage) or loaner and I was without a vehicle for 7.5 weeks. So the service was lacking

ENGINE IMMOBILISER SYSTEM: B2799: Engine Immobiliser System Malfunction

DTC B2799 - Engine Immobiliser System Malfunction

    DESCRIPTION

This DTC is output when one of the following occurs: 1) the ECM detected errors in its own communications with the immobiliser code ECU; 2) the ECM detects errors in the communication lines; or 3) the ECU communication ID between the immobiliser code ECU and ECM is different and an engine start is attempted. Before troubleshooting for this DTC, make sure no certification ECU DTCs are present. If present, troubleshoot the certification ECU DTCs first.

Maybe the cheap route would be to start by having your keys re-initialized to the vehicle? Back in August, I had to call AAA for locking the keys in the car. They came out, got me in but then had to come to my house a day later when they ended up redoing the codes for my keys.

I've had the B2799 code one time- actually earlier this month, along with ECM code P0606. These were cleared and then I had a p0444,0445 a week or so later. The hypothesis by a tech I know is that it could have been a hiccup caused by my remote starter and a faulty gas cap- the P0441 came on a week after the other codes, replaced the cap and no more codes after a few hundred miles. The 0441 caused the 0444-0445 and that relayed to a P0606 (most people say replace ECM, but according to Toyota tech, it's an airflow ratio issue tripping the code)... and if there was a hiccup when starting in the cold morning while using the remote (there's a key in the dashboard), then it could be all related. I had NO drivability issues whatsoever by the way.

So, in a nutshell, I'd go the cheap way first. Have the codes redone to try and resolve. I think you can do it at Home Depot too. Then start to worry about an ECM.

Do you have a remote starter?

Sorry for the long, rambling post... Starbucks coffee with extra shot of espresso.

I’ve read through this but may have missed it. Did the security light always go out with the correct key in it?

I am having a b2799 issue as well and it is with a new key but the light goes out when keys inserted...

A thought just entered my memory . Every time this has happened my truck was parked with key in the ignition in the off position for about 1 hour

Were you ever able to verify this theory? My 09 just did the same thing. I was sitting in a parking lot with the key in the off position for a fair amount of time before it happened.

Morning. No I could never verify it but it hasn't happened again. I just dont leave the key in the ignition unless it's running or in the accessory position
