2005+ 2.7 I4 gears

not the former question about gear change which ive read, but i am hearing that the 4.56 would be best, however there is a company that has 4.30 gears..... SUggestions?!?!?!?!?!?

What size tire are you planing on running?

 

a 265/60/18 at the moment its 255/55/18

 

you are puttin bigger tires on?

 

265/60/18 at the largest up from 215/70/15 thats stock

 

if im not mistaken you have stock 4.10s now, if you go up a 4.30 should do fine. who makes 4.30?

 

I would say 4.10's also, I've heard they are hard to find though? 4.34's are more common?

I'm sure this is unnecessary at this point, especially being that you know there is stock gears in your rear axle, but there is a really easy trick to finding out the rear end gear(or front) if you are unsure of it.

Block the front wheels, jack the rear end up and place the vehicle in neutral. Mark the drive shaft with a line parallel to the shaft it self so you can count the revolutions of the shaft. Then spin the tires EXACTLY two turns.
If the drive shaft spins a hair over 4 times its more then likely a 4.10 gear ratio, 4 and 1/3 its probably a 4.30, 5 and 1/3 probably a 5.29 etc...

Old trick that works every time.

EDIT: I forgot to add since a fair amount of these truck come with limited slips, you should only turn the rear wheels once with a limited slip. Two full turns with an open diff.
