Thanks for the insight! ... The supplied instructions that came with my kit was fairly generic so it left a lot up to the imagination.
Your post certainly answered a lot of questions!

I also questioned the sealing of the cut edges as the bottom seat recess lands directly under the butt area .... Building up this area with tape would perhaps be a bit uncomfortable and or noticeable on long trips.

I did not shorten the length of either back or bottom pad, made just two small rectangular cutouts for the hog ring connections as you suggested.
Just need to hookup power and see if it all works!

    Thanks again!

The DIY threads are the bomb. Thanks for putting this together. I bought my 2012 DC new and am waiting on the fabric seats to wear out a little more before diving into the replacement leather. But I've wanted leather seats since mile 1.

Your Katzkin upholstery kit looks awesome! I was thinking about the Clazzio leather seat covers, but after seeing your seats i think Katzkin is the only way to go. I have a 2016 TRD Sport and really think I'll be buying a Katzkin kit, thanks for the pictures.

Looks awesome, but I am having concerns on if the leather works with the airbag. Do they just say that or have they tested it? Do they sew something different around the airbag in order for it to open properly.

I did a little research on the Katzkin leather seat kit, they do work with the seat air bags as long as they are installed correctly. I believe it has something to do with the thread used to stitch the leather panels together in that area of the seat, i could be wrong, but I'm sure they work fine because many of the auto manufactures, Dodge, Ford and i think GM are offering Katzkin leather interior upgrades as a dealer installed option. I'd be more concerned about using seat covers because then you would have two layers of fabric the air bag would have to push through. Just my thoughts on them, but you have to admit, they are awesome looking when installed.

Was your seat option a combo? Or a body?

I just wanted to say thanks to the op for this write up! I love tacoma world. I went with the clazzio seat covers instead of the katzkin, my truck is my daily driver (and I drive all day for work) so I just don't have the downtime for the install. I also installed the seat heaters. I was nervous about the wiring, but this write up made it a cinch! Thanks again I love my new heated seats on long drives :bananadance:
