Do you have the TRD Offroad? If so, do you still have the factory skid plates?

This only applies to factory TRD OR skids.

My truck isn't TRD. I have the stock skid. I can't take pics at the moment camera is with GF. Our skids stop a good bit before the diff. No reason to drop or lower the back portion, that I can think of.

Yeah, the TRD factory skid has a second portion that covers everything back to but not including the transfer case.

You have to drop it to get to the front diff.

I am very pleased with the MT90 in my Spyder.

Anyone else heard of problems with the RP in tacomas?

Your truck has no mechanical LSD, it's electronic (uses the brakes to mimic what clutch plates do). You don't need the additive because it has no plates that could "chatter without it.

That's what I thought. I knew the brakes were used to "fake" an LSD. But I figured I'd better ask to be sure.

Thanks

Alright, so I re-read all 11 pages of this thread as well as searched for the answer to this but couldn't find any.

I have the 4wd offroad (no lsd) and went to Advance Auto today to price some diff oil. Since Mobil 1 synthetic seems to be what many here are using, I thought I'd check it out. The only Mobil 1 75W-90 they had was the 75W-90 LS type which it says is good for limited-slip diffs. Here's a link: http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...75W-90LS.aspx.

Since I have the locker, is the Mobil 1 LS okay to use on my diffs and trans case or does Walmart or Autozone sell the non-LS type of Mobil 1 75W-90 synthetic? I have nothing to tow, I've never offroaded, I don't push the truck as much as I could, I don't "floor it", and I only have 17k on it. Yes, to some, this defines a road/garage queen, that's fine, I'll admit to it. At most, I haul a yard of topsoil/mulch.

What do you think?

I will use Amsoil in mine. I was thinking of using RP or Mobile 1 but I read a third party review, from a link on TW somewhere, on gear oil and Amsoil had the best overall ratings. If someone knows of the link, please post.

Mobil 1 LS will be fine for your regular diffs. It's the only 75w-90 gear oil Mobil 1 makes. It works for "regular" diffs and mechanical limited slips...supposedly. A lot of people report continued gear chatter with any synthetic oil in a mech LSD...but that's neither here nor there in your case.

If it helps you feel any better, I've been running the stuff in both diffs and the T-case of my Taco for about a week with no problems whatsoever.

so i have a rear locker... I guess mobil 1 works ok? or maybe amsoil Amsoil? 75w-90? It should fits 3 qts? the transfer case 2 qts?

I don't run the 4x4 too much so I dont have to change that in a while right? I have like 18k miles on it. should i get the amsoil called slip lock additive? it says it needs for both LSD and Rear locker.

I didn't think you needed any additive for the rear locker diffs. Just the amsoil should be fine. Anybody else???
