I went to my dealer and asked for the LSD additive and he said the Toyota doesn't make the additive they just buy it from Car Quest. He showed me the bottle which was this 7oz bottle but I noticed in your picture that your dealer gave you this the 4 oz bottle. I wonder what the difference is?
EDIT... I emailed the company and this is the response I got: Quote:

OK, so i just drained my fluid and there was a little spring on the drain plug magnet. Truck has 73k miles and this is the first time for it to be changed. Doesn't have LSD or anything just v6 4x4. The spring is approx 1/2" long and really weak. Any ideas? Since it has been this long just fill it up and go on? Never any issues with the truck.

Hey guys, good write up but....
You forgot to add a very important part to your list of required items. Qty. 2 Drain and fill plug gaskets Part Number 12157-10010 They are metal crush gaskets that get flattened to seal between the plug and the housing. The more you reuse them the greater the chance to overtorque and crush them, eventually they will crack/leak/loosen. ![]() You can see the shiny metal ring in one of your pictures, on the plug. They are like a buck or two at the dealer, I bought two when I did mine back in November.

upon further looking at the "spring" it turned out to be a piece of metal shaving
![]() since it went so long without changing the fluid, I bought some cheap gear oil at walmart, ran it through for a couple miles, drained it then filled it with Lucas. |

If I can be so bold as to add to the instructions here, when I did mine I put a floor jack under the right rear spring seat and lifted that side of the truck up about 8 inches. Quite a bit more old fluid ran out. The drain plug isn't in the center of the diff, not sure why, but stands to reason the stuff that gets left behind if you don't tilt the axle would be the thicker nastier crap.

Yup. Quite a bit more came out. I had just driven up to get the diff lube so there might have been a lot in the axle tube too. Hmm...I should have lifted the left side too...

I usually change mine "cold". Not sure how much satys in the axel, but I cant imagine much would. I have noticed that the plug is off centered a bit, but its pretty flush with the bottom on the inside of the 3rd member.

went to the auto store and the rp was $17 a bottle. I thought that was too much so decided to go wit lucas gear oil. the job its self was realy easy, the only thing that was kinda agravating was putting the oil back in it took forever. now i didn't notice much difference if any but maybe it will take a lil time. thank you all for the help and chris' write-up made it very very easy. thanks again .
