X2. Are you talking about using synthetic or non? Most popular synthetic being used my TW members is Mobil 1.

Use engine oil in the engine, obviously. Too many dumb questions on this site.

He asked what "engine" oil to use so he obviously had a different question. Quit hating on new members.

Check your oil cap, it will tell you what Toyota recommends.
Most likely, 5w30. Mobil-1 is affordable, and as good as (or better than) the more expensive synthetic products.

Toyota factory filters are $40 for a 10-pack on eBay, or if you are more comfortable ordering from a Toyota dealer, you can get 20 for $88 shipped from Titus-Will (but these do not include the drain plug gasket)

    Maybe change your mind?

RP didn't hold up any better than Castrol GTX.

Not sure what to focus on here? Loss in Viscosity?

I haven't geeked out on oil analysis so nothing stands out? Or is that the point.

    I'd prefer a 0w-20 comparison, who uses 20w-50?

    Yes, viscosity.
This was in my V-Twin motorcycle, thus the 20w50.
I couldn't really get a fair comparison on the M1 non-motorcycle formula due to the lack of an available 20w50, but the 15w50 was not promising that the automotive M1's are as solid as the motorcycle blends... but it still did better than Castrol GTX (as one would expect).

The intent wasn't to provide specific numbers for the RP product... just to show how it stands up against the competition. Note that these were very short change intervals initially before I decided to stick with the M1 or Amsoil products.

I don't have a good explanation for why one sample of the "V-Twin" dropped 15% and others only 5 or 6, could be seasonal temperature related.

I suspect that some of the "hype" around Royal Purple is perhaps confusion with RedLine? I did not test Redline (or Schaffer) as my intention of the series of tests was to evaluate various products that were available locally to most people.

Have you ever had an issue of something such as brush snagging the handle and cracking open the valve, if this is even possible? I have one in my "Wish Basket" on Amazon (the one with the nipple for a hose) just waiting to pull the trigger.
    Thanks,
    John

and possibly this. I am using a standard hose clamp for now.
