I recently noticed my rear differential pinion seal leaking. When I touched the lower part of the rear diff, it was hot. I am guessing that the bearings are wearing out and need to be replaced before they break apart or seize up and damage the ring and axle gears.

Where do I get the information about gear spacing/backlash without buying the entire 200 dollar manual? I've done a few online searches with no luck.

alldatadiy.com has a subscription program that costs much less and has quite a bit of documentation. Not so much for my 2012 just yet, though...

Diffs usually get pretty warm to hot to the touch. A leaking pinion seal could be that the bearing lost it's pre-load or the bearing could be shot.

I don't have the manual for the 1st gens but I do have the 2nd gens. You could search for zuks diff builds. I wouldn't reccomend trying to do this job yourself though.
