My emergency brake light is always on and it no longer works properly. It almost sounds/feels like the cable is stretched out. Wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar issue. And if there was reasonably priced solution. Any help is much appreciated. ;)

The two issues may not be related.

First, check your bake fluid level. A low level will turn that light on.

For the parking brake itself, you have to get underneath and check the cables. They may need adjusted to take the slack out.

Yea had this happen to my 03 Taco, ended up that I had to rebuild the bell housing in the rear brakes, they all rusted up and frozen.

I had a similar problem. My E-brake light would stay on when I released the brake and I had to continue to play with the handle to make the light go away. TacomaWorld has a great link here.

I used it to adjust my E-brake properly. Secondly, I read somewhere on this site that someone used WD-40 inside where the E-brake handle is to help the handle turn the light off. Hope this helps.

on my 98 4x4 it turned out to be that the switch behind the lever under the dash got gummy , sprayed WD40 and it started working again

parking brake not working sounds like another issue

This happened to my friends pickup (not a Tacoma), the front e-brake cable snapped causing the handle to stick out slightly and keeping the light on.
    Something to look at.

Lots of good advice. Remember that that light is NOT the parking brake light. It is called the "brake warning light" and comes on when the parking brake is engaged(or the switch SAYS that it is engaged) or there are any problems with the base brake system.
