Toomuch oil

I put 5.5 quarts in and get less than 5 quarts out, 3 - 5K miles later. I have no drips.

 

The oil capacity has been listed as "reference" since 2009, but Toyota didn't explicitly say the dipstick takes precedence.

According to the manual, an engine can burn a qt of oil every 600 miles. In theory, how much you put in during an oil change doesn't matter, because you could be pouring in a whole bottle every second gas fillup.

 

I've got no noticeable drop on the dipstick on the Taco over 5000 (currently just over 80k), but I'm definitely not getting 5.5qts out on a drain.

Wife's Rav4, OTOH, it's around 125k now, and for the last 30k or so it's used about a quart every 4000.
Just enough to piss me off... don't want to change oil every 3k, don't want to wait until 5k running it low considering it only holds 4.

So when I change the oil in the Taco, I use 5.5 and dump the last 1/2qt into the Rav.

 

Does your owners manual show a picture of the dip stick with the low and full marks and mention below the low dot you add oil and above the full dot it's too full? Also, does your manual have a notice on that same page that says... avoid overfilling, or the engine could be damaged? Mine does.
