If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
No, not normal. All I can say is double-check the wire you pulled.

What was your sequence? Did you disconnect the battery before or after doing the mod? How long was it the battery disconnected? Did the lights come on immediately after doing this, or a few days after?

Pulled positive off. Cut wire then cliped it back in. Put batter back on. Maybe I should completely disconnect?

What wire did you clip? Second one down from the top-left?

The only time I've read about similar issues like yours related to this mod, it was either due to the wrong wire being clipped/removed, or the Yaw sensor being damaged.

I would unplug the battery and reconnect the wire to see if the lights go off.

What truck do you have? Says '09 4x4, but your build says Prerunner, and you have TRD OR decals. Just wondering what trim-level you have.

I pulled both terminals and that seemed to fix it. Thanks a lot brother.

I have an 09 sport 4wd now. I guess I should update everything.

So I tried the abs kill switch mod... Cutting the green wire and installing a switch.. It doesn't seem to do anything?

As we've all learned, every Taco model has certain "gotchas" when it comes to the ABS mod. That's why there are literally (4) different Threads/How-Tos floating around out there.

Since you have an '06 Sport, you may or may not have VSC. You may have to use a grounded switch as outlined in these write-ups:

    Landphil's Method: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...locking-diff-write-up-pics-8.html#post5324525

    BtNewman's Method: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...easy-caveman-can-do-abs-disable-mod-pics.html

OP, have you run across anyone that has been able to get the VSC out of the 4lo Trac mod on 09+ models?. That is the one that drives me nuts and have worked on it extensively without success. I now believe the VSC is buried in the software with the TRAC as a package. One seems to always accompany the other.

    As always, nice write-up Ben.

I will do the ABS Kill Sw mod next weekend.

I am wondering what the Yellow Wire mod does for a 4x4 Sport (LongBed).. I read through, but it's not clear , to me at least.

I have been curious about that as well. Basically, what I want is to have 4LO with TRAC and no VSC (engine/throttle cutoff). Sounds like that's what you are going for as well?

I still need to look into the 2LO mod that Brady mentioned to see if it would work for 4LO also: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/195424-2wd-lo-mod.html

I agree that VSC/TRAC are a bundled package, especially true for 09+ when it became standard. Not sure on '05-'09, since VSC/TRAC were "optional" add-ons that were listed on the dealer sticker and were typically not user-controlled.

    Thanks Mike!

The YWM will enable TRAC (traction control) in 4LO. If you're in 4LO, and you have 1 (or 2) wheels that are slipping, TRAC will use the ABS system to apply the brakes to the "non-slipping" wheels, and transfer more power to the one(s) that need traction. Sort of like a poor man's locker :p

Normally when in 4LO, TRAC is disabled leaving you with open diffs front and back. Full power to both axles, and no way to transfer power to a slipping tire.

Hope that makes sense. I think this is an awesome mod, and too easy not to do. The only downside is like I mentioned above - if VSC kicks in, it can cutoff your throttle, and make it even more difficult to get out of a rut or over an obstacle.

When in doubt, throttle out! :D

Hey Benson X, I know this is a redundant question but on my 2013 the second wire down on the left side is solid yellow it looks like...has anyone done this on a 13 yet that had a solid yellow for that plug?

There were a couple guys (page 4) that did the YWM on a '13 Sport, but they didn't mention the wire being solid yellow. The Black trace is pretty thin.

I would either PM them to check their wire, or remove the terminal with a small flathead and test it out. You can easily plug it back in and not have to solder it.

Feel free to post a pic if needed.

^^ OZ-T, what a number of us have been trying to do is keep the Trac in 4lo or 4hi and get rid of the VSC. The two seem to be bundled together in the software and not separable. I have ruined at least a half dozen OEM connectors and many terminals attempting a wide array of combinations and periodically goofing around with this since the spring of 2009. No luck yet.

On my 05 VSC turns off when I shift into 4wd and trac still operates... although I guess the difference might be that I have ATrac on my Offroad
