Lucky you! Us 09+ Taco's got a different setup. The first couple years of the 2nd gen vs. the newer model 2nd gens have their advantages and disadvantages I guess.

^^ On the 09+ both the Trac+VSC are there when shifting into 4hi. The difference from 2hi to 4hi is that throttle regulation is supposed to disappear. On the 09+ if you try to gun it in snow, etc. in 2hi the thing kills you with about a 1500 rpm limit. If you shift it to 4hi and keep the steering wheel straight the 1500 rpm limit disappears.

^^ Yes I have. I have also kept an extensive log of all the trials I have attempted since 2009. There is no such thing a getting good at depinning those connectors. I have depinned hundreds of terminals and have never gotten good. On the very small terminals, the 0.64III, there is even a special tool produced by Tyco. The tool helps but even then have ruined a number of connectors.

I have pulled out several hundreds of pins myself out of connectors and I have never gotten good at it either. I hate the locking system which they use. I think I broke the one which the yellow wire sits in if I ever wanted to put it back in, at least I think. Not that it matters to me though because the yellow wire mod rocks!

Interesting. So if you try drifting in 4Hi it still beeps at you and tries to straighten the rig back out?

^^ You bet. The 4lo Trac hack is probably the most satisfying mod I have done. I love it in the snow. For the record, this mod was originally done on an FJ Cruiser by a guy screen named Pumbaa (from the FJ Cruiser forums) in 2008 so all the credit goes to him. I found the thread and we corresponded extensively about it in early 2009 and I had it operational in the spring of 2009. I'll come back in a minute and post that thread per an edit.

EDIT: here is the very first appearance of the 4lo Trac hac from 2008 on an FJ Cruiser. The FJ Cruiser mod was then adapted to the Tacoma. http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...75347-4lo-trac-hack-trac-non-locking-fjs.html

^^Yep. Its real annoying. Its even more annoying in 4lo. This is why we have been trying to get the VSC out.

Had I have had a Tacoma back in the day I would had figured this out a long long time ago. I love these forums because they take all the guess work and hard work of researching the work prior to doing the mods.

Benson, what did you use to get the pin out of that terminal for the YWM? I messed with it for 30 minutes, nothing. What's the trick here?

^^ Are you having trouble with the first lock (the cross bar) or the second lock (inside at the end of the connector)?

Probably the second lock. I had trouble at the same spot!

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I used the smallest flathead I could find, but you could also use a paperclip or a larger staple.

Unlock the top bar, then insert your tool in the back of the plug on the inner side of the terminal. The "lock" needs to be depressed while you pull out the terminal. It helped to push in on the terminal a little bit to depress the lock, and then pull it out.

Hope this helps, they are tricky little bastards

^^ Uh, yea, they are tricky.

Let's try to improve the odds here a bit. Recognize of course that I have done it a bunch and have also messed up a bunch. This is not fool proof.

    1. Get a tiny jeweler's screwdriver. Sometimes a large needle will work. Get a magnifying glass.

    2. Undo the 1st lock. It is the bar that crosses sideways across the top of the connector. Lift both sides of the bar up equally about 1mm. Don't force it more.

    3. Look at the face of the connector. Notice that there are 2 openings for every terminal: a larger one and a smaller one. You will work in the larger. Hold the connector so that all the smaller openings lie above the larger.

    4. Make sure the wire has no tension where it enters the connector on the back side. Otherwise it will bind and you will not get the terminal out.

    5. Take your magnifying glass and look in the large opening. See the bottom of the terminal? Note the plastic lock (a tab) just below and touching the bottom of the terminal.

    6. Release the 2nd lock. Take your tiny screwdriver and place it at the absolute bottom of the terminal (beneath) where it touches that plastic lock piece. While pushing in parallel to the lock but not too hard, rotate the screwdriver in your hand upward so it pushes the lock downward. Think a lever action here. While the lock is pushed downward, try to gently pull the wire out from the opposite side. It should not require very much pull at all.

    7. Know when to quit. If you have to work at it for a while you will begin to damage the connector -- especially the 2nd lock -- and the terminal won't come out. Make sure that you can always reconnect it and know when to quit. Otherwise you may have to replace the connector.

    Good luck.

Good info, got it out in about 15 minutes! My technique was just bad before so thanks taco09 for the tips and Benson for the tutorial!
I searched for a while to try and find tips on this, so hopefully this helps others as well.

I need some help with the ABS kill switch I have a 2012 4x4 with Trac SR5 package 5SPD. I don't have the blue box and before I start hacking wires I need to know if it's the same or if I need one of the other 12 ways to disable the ABS thanks in advance.

Definitely a different harness. I can't tell from your pic, but do you have the light green wire on your lower-right plug?

I'll have to check it started to snow so I only grabbed those few pictures. The plug looks like it has less wires then yours does.

That's the plug there is a small green wire in the bundle however is there anyway besides cutting it to make sure it's the same wire I hate hacking into the wiring harnesses without being certain that is the correct wire.
