Thinking of adding inside outside thermometer to truck. Anyone know where the thermocouple is mounted? Saw one where it is in the door jamb but that seems kind of hokey.

Won't that pick up a lot of heat from the engine?? Maybe mount it lower?

I have one with the sensor mounted in the door jam & it works great. The only bad thing about mounting it there is when the sun is hitting on that side of the truck. Other than that, it works well.

It will pick up heat when the truck is not moving and the engine has been running, but reads correctly soon after the truck gets moving.

With the sensor forward of the radiator, it is not affected by heat from the sun as it would if in the door jam with the sun beating down on that side.

Ah, ok. If or when I have to redo this I'll have to give this a try. Thanks!

What brand and model is that? I want a clock, but a temp gauge sounds pretty nice too. Those darn clocks that you can't see from the steering wheel!

I do believe it is a roadpro (truckstop special).Just do the search on the net, this one plugs into the outlet and has a battery back up.It is held on with velcro but I am always open for other options.

Factory outside temp sensors that are located in the front grill area are read differently than a normal temp sensor is. On first key-up, if the engine off time has reached a predetermined point (this is decided upon in software development) then the displayed temperature will be exactly what was measured at that time. If the engine is running, the outside temp sensor signal will be ignored until the vehicle is moving above a predetermined speed (Usually faster than 30 mph) What this does is prevents the "radiated" temperature coming from the radiator from causing inaccuracies for the sensor.
