1996 Toyota Tacoma questions

1. What size fuel tank on 1996 4x4 pickup?
2. should there be lights on dash for heater/defrost, etc?
3. missing catalytic converter. Runs fine. Always has service engine light on. could this be a problem?

 

1. I believe they are 17 gallons.
2. On the dash, or on the A/C Control head? Yes if you are meaning the A/C control head.
3. Yes.

 

I don't have a cat, no problem here.

 

Hope you enjoy breathing that. lol. Sorry, I always give recommendations and information based on repairing a vehicle back to legal, factory specs. Removing the cat is not exactly legal (in most states), nor good for the environment.

 

Ditton on the tank size. I found out when I ran my old one below E and it ended up taking like 16.563 gallons or some such so yea it's 17, lol. As for the CAT, I really don't see how it does much of anything other than maybe "scrub" the exhaust before leaving the vehicle out the pipe. I know a guy with an '89 Runner that "hollowed" out the cat and at emissions it runs right in the regs. Nuclear and coal fired power plants are bad for the environment too, but I like electricity. Tit for tat as it were, but just my two cents. Oh, and the check engine light is prolly on because of one of those crappy emissions censors, ie; O2's, but it could also be the knock, ATCS, or even the mass airflow sensor. Best way is to have it checked by a diagnostic pad which is free at AutoZone, Checker or even NAPA, depending on where yer located.

EDIT: Could also be yer cam position sensor, dirty injectors (fouling), etc. See where I'm going with the diagnostic idea?
