earlier, I thought it was because of reading this thread. Then I realized it was something I ate, when I had to go back and wipe again (I felt wetness between my cheeks)

Just finished reading all of this and plan on doing it, for the times I remove my cover.
BUT for the first 2 years of owning my truck I could not remove the tailgate, I tried many times, just for fun but didn't need to haul anything. The time came when it needed to be removed, and upon closer look it seemed to have a metal shim (semi round) covering the slot 3/4 of the way. I had to take a large and long screwdriver to move the shim counter clock wise to clear the area and remove the tailgate. What this is all about..........no clue, but I am going to remove it and take a better look at it.

Hold the tailgate open at a slight angle, just like what I did in the vid. Passenger side pulls off first, then the driver side pulls out.
