2013 SR5 double cab 5 speed auto trans.; while driving between 20 & 30 mph
and in D gear, when I let off the accelerator the truck transmission downshifts noticeably by itself. It feels like I am gently braking. This must not be good for fuel efficiency. confused:

It downshifts if your foots off the throttle. Keep your foot steady, and stay at a steady speed, and it wont.

Thanks Chris4x4, that I understand. What if I am on a secondary road going down a hill and just want to coast to get better gas mileage? My old chevy truck would coast easily down the hill sort of free wheeling. My tacoma acts like it is lightly braking. Maybe it is just the design of the transmission?

It mimics the operations of a manual tranny.
