2006 Tacoma Brakes soft

I have seen a few threads on spongy brakes I have a 2006 tacoma and if the truck is off i can pump the pedal and they get firm, but when I start it up it gets a little soft. I recently did the bearings and saw that if the axle nut isnt torqued to 173 lbft the rotor might move pushing the pistons on the caliaper out, if that was the case would they firm up and when i start it would they stay firm since I am not moving? all the other ones say the trucks has low mielage and mine has 115,000 on it, so can anybody give me any ideas I am about to drive from North carolina to Utah towing my prius next wednsday. I dont want to have any problems. thanks guys

First; the rotors are held tight with the lugnuts not the spindle nut
Second; try adjusting the back brakes up so the shoes just barely touch the drums, then check how it stops
after that would be bleeding the brakes to change fluid and flush any air or moisture out of lines

Hope this gives you some ideas

I just noticed the bleader screw on the passenger side is broke off, no fluid is coming out but could air still be getting in there?

its a possibility, but if air was getting in your brakes would be getting worse
Me thinks someone bled the brakes or tryed too, which is how the bleeder got broke
and didn't get all the air out of the system, which can difficult to do.

I know this cause when the body shop changed my rearend, I had to go back three times cause of air in the lines before they got it right
