Hey I've searched a ton and can't find an answer. I noticed around my rear diff filler plug some seepage. I am thinking the last time it was serviced, the crush washer wasn't replaced. I have only owned my truck about a month now or else I would've done it right. I am trying to fix it now and not sit on it and wait, but parts dept at the stealerships are closed now and my local auto parts stores are worthless. Does anyone know the size of washer I need? Furthermore, does anyone know the filler plug size? Specifically thread size, I know it is a 24mm head. Autozone has a few options, I just don't want to waste time buying a bunch of stuff I don't need. It is for a 2009 trd offroad 4x4 if that matters. Thank you all in advance!

I'll be honest, I've yet to replace my crush washer and I've had my diff in and out multiple times, and changed the oil even more, no leaks, no seeping.

Pull it out, clean the surfaces -- on the plug, washer, and housing. Clean everything real well, be mindful of it's appearance, does it look fucked up or would you assume it's normal. Put it back in and snug it up.

The oil change sticky has part numbers for the washers just in case.

    As for plug.

Also, are you sure it's seepage, did you clean it up with a rag and solvent and see if it comes back? You could also check to see if the plug is snug as well, before proceeding any farther.

Thanks max for the detailed response. I am sure the leak is from the fill plug. When I looked at it, it was bubbling around the bolt head. I did try and snug it up when I arrived up at the campground I was staying at, and it was snug on there. I had put a trail gear creeper breather on earlier in the day, but when I did, the diff was a little wet already so I don't believe the breather is the cause, but I will be taking it off just in case. Thanks for the links and response max!

I've heard bad things about those breathers but I don't think that's the source of your problem, seems typically axle seal leaks, no way it'd push out your fill plug unless you already had a problem there. I'd still run a hose with a filter anyway.

As far as the rest, I hope you found the washers, I'm doubtful you need a new plug.

Yeah I plan on changing it to the hose extended up. Today I cleaned it up, pulled the plugs out and drained it. Seemed like a lot came out. But I threw a new washer on them and re filled with Mobil 1 and re torqued them, and so far not a drip so hopefully that fixes it. I also removed the creeper breather and replaced it with the factory one for now until I can do the mod. Thanks again for your help I appreciate it!
