Swappin' the 4cyl for a six...in the same truck

At first I thought my 4cyl was a good idea economy wise but that was before I started reading that the 6yl aren't but a couple miles worse per gallon. And the lack of top-end power does not justify those couple miles per gallon IMHO.

So since I like everything else about this truck and I know a good mechanic, whats the probability of dropping a 6cyl into the 4cyl truck? Is it a bolt up, no brainer or not even possible?

I've got the 5spd manual tranny if thats relevant.

Not a worthwhile venture. Find a 6cyl truck that you like and trade yours against it.

 

It can be done, but it is not as simple as dropping it in. Of the multiple things that have to be changed over, you will need the entire wiring harness, and the computer needs to be changed as well.

 

yeah they already make your truck in a 6 cylinder. to go thru the trouble of an engine swap, throw an LS1 in there

I had already considered doing a V8 swap in mine back when my engine first went out. The dang cost for all the conversion parts were just way too expensive. Still got the Corvette LS1 engine though!

No, I have had an LS1 for about 2 years now. Just don't have anything to put it in yet.

Thanks for the replies and I have to say I'm starting to get accustomed to this motor and feel better about it. I just got back from a 1200mi trip, mostly hilly interstate, and I figured out how this thing likes to be shifted. Coming off an automatic V8, it's taking some getting used to.

 

That would make one heck of motor for a go cart...
